The Indicators of Poverty in Brazil and the Public Policy Formulation to Face It

Abstract

This article has as its predominant field of study public policies, insofar as the primary mechanisms for identifying problems will be addressed, such as social indicators, responsible for providing social and public policymakers with quantitative and qualitative data on absolute poverty and food security in our country. Based on bibliographic and documental research, the objective is to develop the idea that public policies can be the appropriate means to combat poverty in our country, given their ability to equate, albeit minimally, guidelines for government actions aimed at economic and social development. From the analysis of graphs containing data on poverty in Brazil, we will conclude that practical knowledge of the social reality may be able to give intelligibility to the problem of poverty in the country, instilling in government officials the objective understanding of the social reality to be transformed. The combination of these analysis criteria is to endow the pre-decision-making process of public policy formulation with purpose and rationality, which can directly impact the search for socioeconomic equality in Brazil and Latin America.
