The Cities in Motion Index (CIMI) 2019 of the IESE Business School aims to evaluate a range of dimensions, such as connectivity, social impact, urban planning, use of technology and transportation, with the purpose of constructing a major indicator, measuring the sustainable development of cities, as well as the quality of life of its inhabitants. This article presents the results of the evaluation of the city of São Paulo, Brazil, highlighting the dimensions of social cohesion, mobility and economy. For these dimensions, analyzed under IESE definitions, São Paulo had lower scores and was classified at 132st position CIMI 2019 ranking. The article presents the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data used in the creation of the indicators, proposing an explanation for the city’s current position, as well as presenting suggestions for the achievement of a better result in future editions of the index.
